So I have this dog.
She's a golden retriever & husky mix. She has one blue eye and one brown eye. She's as sweet as can be unless she doesn't know you and cross her field of view. She barks at EVERYBODY.
So I had a telephone repairman come to my house. He walked in and she didn't notice him. She was konked out from running trails with me. The guy went to work on an outlet and Lucky walked in the room and looked at him for a second. I grabbed her collar preparing for her to go nuts on him, and she just looked up at me like, "let me go, motherfucker, I'm chillin" Surprised, I let her go. I have NEVER seen my dog not go berserk on a stranger. She went up to the man, smelled him, and promptly laid down on the floor right next to him, actually touching him. So I got a phone call and I was talking about how weird my dog was acting, it was like she felt sorry for him. My friend told me that dogs can sense sadness. I mentioned that to the repairman, and he said, "Your friend is right, my son killed himself last week." So amazing...

Interesting story, although I haven't had anything quite like that happen to me I have read a fascinating book called "Dogs that know when their owners are coming home".
It touches on the obvious, such as the title of the book, and delves into possible pyschic abilities and how in tune dogs are to even the smallest facial expressions and body language that all cretures (including humans) display. They did a field study on every aspect of the book and had some very amazing results and some huge disappointments, a must read for anybody into dog behavior. |
