Mitsuharu Misawa dead at 46

I don't expect this thread to get alot of attention, but I just want to pay my respects in as many places as possible to Misawa-san. For those of you who don't know, Misawa is a legendary Japanese pro wrestler, possible the best of the 1990's, and a man I patterned myself after quite a bit. He died in the ring last night taking a routine back suplex. Needless to say, very few come close to touching his catalogue of great work. He as more 5 Star matches than anyone else in the history of the business. He was the owner of the Pro Wrestling NOAH promotion.

It's a sad for me, and more importantly, a sad day for pro wrestling.

Did you say he died from a back suplex? Did he break his spine?

The back suplex was the last move he took. The wrestler who did the move, Akitoshi Saito has a very safe back suplex, where the person taking it lands flat on their shoulders, with little head contact on the mat.

I believe the official cause is a heart attack, though it may have been a head injury. He had a reputation for taking an insane amount of punishment. The kind of punishment you can't fake. He had a myriad of injuries, which prevented him from working out properly, so he was more or less overweight for the last 10 years. While that normally wouldn't be an issue, as there are lots of overweight people out there, he wrestled such a physically demanding style, it was more than his heart could handle.

The match was stopped immediately when the ref realized he wasn't responding, and there was an attempt to revive him in the ring. He was not announced dead until he was taken to the hospital, but it's believed that he was dead in the ring. CPR and a defibrilator were used in the arena.

He was certainly a Hero.
The figure which fought by oneself at a ring impressed a person with courage while begin the president of the company.
I regret it heartily.

Some of the most heartbreaking footage I've ever seen here. Doctors try to revive him, the fans chant his name in one last attempt to get their hero to get back up.

Ring of Honor Mourned the loss of Misawa just recently with a 10 bell salute and a moment of silence.

That probably won't happen, since the story barely picked up any steam over here, aside from the usual outlets like the Wrestling Observer, etc. ESPN did however have a short story on it on their website, but pulled it fairly quickly.

Since I'm here, the official cause of death was severe trauma to the spine, which caused a heart attack.
